We Are But A Moment checks all of those boxes. No matter the topic, I enjoy novels that can work me over: make me think, challenge me to keep up with the pace (whether fast or slow), cause me to gasp out loud, and shock me into furrowing my brow more than once. I unreservedly recommend that everyone discover for themselves what Ulrich Baer means by that and strap in for quite the ride while doing so. We ARE but a moment, and that moment just may be now. We Are But A Moment? We are? What could that mean I wondered? After reading this brilliant novel, I get it. Poe, as well as Wilde on Love Dickinson on Love Rilke on Love Nietzsche on Love Shakespeare on Love, all with Warbler Press. Dalloway, Pride and Prejudice, stories by E. He's also published museum catalog on a range of photographers, and published and introduced top-quality and well-priced editions of The Great Gatsby, Frankenstein, The Scarlet Letter, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Prophet, Jane Eyre, Mrs. Ulrich Baer is University Professor at New York University, and the recipient of Guggenheim, Getty, Humboldt and other awards, An author, translator, editor, and podcaster, he has published, among other titles: Rilke's "Letters on Life," Rilke's "The Dark Interval: Letters of Loss, Grief and Transformation," "Spectral Evidence: The Photography of Trauma," "110 Stories: New York Writes After September 11," "Beggar's Chicken: Stories from Shanghai," the novel "We Are But A Moment," "What Snowflakes Get Right: Speech, Equality and Truth in the University," "Fictions of America: The Book of Firsts" (with Smaran Dayal). Philosophical rather than prescriptive, We Are But A Moment explores how we live and die in the 21st century, what we consume, how we inhabit our world, and whether we can all live, and love, in the future. What Aleks finally uncovers confronts the reader with the moral choices we all have to make in our precarious times. Aleks's position as a trusted environmental advisor to the president gives him a privileged insider's view into the political maneuvering - and the need for compromises - that have led to U.S. Thus temporarily removed from the fast-paced world of politics, Aleks recounts how our much-admired female president Lucia Jackson became a globally revered leader who unites much of the world under the environmental banner. It is 2025, and a young White House aide, Aleks, finds himself locked up in quarantine when he tested positive after a routine briefing from a hotspot. WE ARE BUT A MOMENT takes the reader on a brisk tour of the globe that vividly imagines the inescapable crisis of the near future posed by overpopulation, diminishing natural resources, climate change, species extinction, and economic tumult.
